HILLTOP MAN INDICTED FOR FATAL SHOOTING OF SOON TO BE EX-WIFE WHILE THEIR THREE CHILDREN WERE IN THE APARTMENT

Franklin County Prosecutor Ron O’Brien said, “This is another tragic case of domestic violence where this man brutally shot his soon to be ex-wife in the head while their three sons were upstairs in the apartment.”  Prosecutor Ron O’Brien announced today that the Franklin County Grand Jury has returned an indictment against Romero Fernando, age 43, for two counts Aggravated Murder with Specification, two counts Murder with Specification, one count Aggravated Burglary with Specification, and one count Tampering with Evidence with Specification, for a total of six counts, in connection to the June 8, 2017 fatal shooting of his soon to be ex-wife Lucia Romero, age 41, that occurred inside her apartment located at 3505 Fremont Street in the Westgate area.  “There are two counts of Aggravated Murder and two counts of Murder with only one deceased victim, because under Ohio law, there are different ways to commit the crime of murder and it is my practice to charge all ways that the crime was committed,” O’Brien stated.  Following the shooting, the defendant fled the scene.  “Medics arrived at the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital where she later died from her injuries,” O’Brien further stated.  Romero will be arraigned on Monday, June 19th at 1:30 pm in courtroom 2B at 345 S. High Street in downtown Columbus.
