Today, a Franklin County Grand Jury returned an indictment against a Columbus man for the murder of his wife and her daughter.

The Grand Jury indicted Derrick Green on the following charges related to the deaths of Shalimar Green and Aliv’eyah Chandler:

  • Three counts of Aggravated Murder, each with a 3-year firearm specification
  • Tampering with Evidence
  • Two counts of Gross Abuse of a Corpse

Background

Police responded to a call at 7:11 p.m. on May 27 in the Independence Village neighborhood in east Columbus following a requested welfare check. When police arrived at the scene, they found Shalimar Green, 33, and her daughter Aliv’eyah Chandler, 11, with multiple gunshot and stab wounds. Both victims were pronounced dead at 7:22 and 7:23 p.m., respectively.

Columbus detectives found spent shell casings in the home and matching cartridges in Derrick Green’s car that was still at the scene. A witness told police that Shalimar’s car was missing. SWAT later found her car a half mile away with Green inside.

While being interviewed, Green admitted to killing Shalimar and Aliv’eyah. Green also admitted to sexually assaulting Aliv’eyah postmortem.

Police arrested Green at 1:15 am. He remains in the Franklin County Jail on a $5 million bond.
