Victim Resources

The Franklin County Prosecutor’s Office is committed to supporting victims and witnesses throughout the criminal justice process. Our Victim Witness Services Unit helps victims understand their rights, stay informed about their case, and access the support they need.

We work closely with victims in serious cases such as sexual assault, domestic violence, child abuse, stalking, and homicide, and act as a bridge between victims and the assistant prosecutors handling their cases.

Victim Notification Services

If you are the victim of a felony crime in Franklin County, you’ll be contacted by our Victim Notification staff once charges are filed. We’ll keep you updated on your case, and—if you choose—we can notify you about future hearings, trial dates, bond changes, and sentencing. We can also provide details on restitution, compensation programs, and additional resources.

Your Rights Under Marsy’s Law

Marsy’s Law is Ohio’s constitutional amendment that gives crime victims specific rights. As a victim, you have the right to:

  • Be treated with fairness, dignity, and respect
  • Be informed about your case and the legal process
  • Be present and heard at court proceedings
  • Refuse interviews or depositions requested by the defense without a subpoena
  • Receive timely notice of release or escape of the accused
  • Confer with prosecutors about your case
  • Receive full and timely restitution

Our Victim Witness team is here to help you understand and exercise these rights.
