Published on June 16, 2026
A Columbus man will spend at least two decades in prison after pleading guilty for his role in the robbery of a Huntington Bank in Groveport.
Late yesterday, Darren Harrington, 40, pled guilty to the following charges:
- Aggravated Robbery with a 3-year firearm specification and a repeat violent offender specification;
- Grand Theft;
- Having a Weapon While Under Disability with a 54-month specification, and
- Unlawful Use of a Weapon by a Violent Career Criminal.
Judge Kimberly Cocroft sentenced Harrington to 19-24.5 years in prison, which was jointly recommended by the defense and prosecution.
Background
On July 29, 2025, an armed suspect robbed Huntington Bank at 556 Main Street, Groveport, stealing around $20,598 and fleeing in a gray Suzuki SX4 driven by a second suspect.
Darren Harrington was identified as the gunman; the driver was a juvenile co-defendant. Police tracked the suspect vehicle and located it an hour later. Christopher Cubbage, the registered owner, was found with $915 and interviewed by authorities.
During the investigation, Cubbage stated that he had been at the Baymont Inn on Rickenbacker Parkway and later observed Harrington, Michelle Smith, 38, and the juvenile co-defendant in possession of a large amount of cash. He reported that the juvenile provided him with money that originated from a bank robbery. Investigators also reviewed hotel surveillance footage, which provided additional information about the individuals’ movements prior to the robbery.
Christopher Cubbage and the juvenile co-defendant have already pled guilty for their roles. Michelle Smith is still awaiting trial.
We’d like to thank Detective David Fairman of the Groveport Police for his quick yet thorough investigation, which led to the defendants’ removal from the streets.
