Columbus, OH – Today, a Franklin County Grand Jury returned an indictment against Former Columbus Police Officer Timothy Fuller, 42, for allegedly strangling his girlfriend.
Fuller was indicted on the following counts:
- Three counts of Strangulation, felonies of the second degree
- One count of Felonious Assault, a felony of the second degree
- One count of Abduction, a felony of the third degree
- Two counts of Domestic violence, misdemeanors of the first degree
Background
At about 12:40 a.m. June 17, Columbus police officers were dispatched to the intersection of Main Street and Luther Lane in Hilliard to meet with Hilliard police officers who were with a woman reporting she had been the victim of a domestic violence incident earlier that day at 1790 Hobbes Drive in Columbus.
The responding Hilliard officer told Columbus police he pulled the woman over for speeding and that she immediately reported she was fleeing a domestic incident at her home. The woman told Columbus officers that on June 16 at about 10 a.m., she was strangled to the point of unconsciousness three times by her live-in boyfriend, identified as Timothy Michael Fuller. She was transferred to Riverside Hospital for treatment.
During an interview at the hospital, the woman told detectives she was unable to call police because Fuller had taken her cellphone. She said Fuller left for work at about 10 p.m., and she then called 911. Because Fuller was a Columbus police officer, she said she feared he might learn about the call and decided to go to the Hilliard Police Department for help. She told detectives she saw a Hilliard police cruiser on Hilliard Rome Road and intentionally sped to have the officer pull her over.
A forensic examination documented numerous injuries, including extensive bruising on her backside, swelling on her nose and forehead, and scattered petechiae across her body.
A search warrant executed at 1790 Hobbes Drive revealed blood on the bedroom carpet. Fuller was arrested by Columbus police on June 17.
