Case Background

On the afternoon of Aug. 26, 2023, police responded to the report of a shooting outside the Dairy Queen in the 1500 block of Schrock Road. Nathaniel Joe-Summerall, 19, was found suffering from gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:32 p.m. Shortly afterward, Blow arrived at OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital with gunshot injuries.

An investigation revealed that Blow set up a deal to trade firearms with Joe-Summerall on social media and agreed to facilitate the trade at the Dairy Queen parking lot. Blow, Lane, and three others drove to the meeting spot, and before they left the vehicle decided to rob the victim of the guns instead of making the trade. When Blow tried to physically take the gun away from Joe-Summerall, a struggle ensued. Blow and the other co-defendants fired their guns, striking Joe-Summerall multiple times.

Lane was not part of the gunfire but was armed with a firearm and stole one of the victim’s guns. He fled from the scene before discarding the weapon.

In all, five people were arrested and charged in connection to the shooting, including three juveniles.
