$2 Million Plus Multi-state “Pill Mill” Prescription Trafficking Case Indicted In Franklin County

Defendant: Oxycodone Ring

In late 2011, after receiving information that numerous individuals were involved in the trafficking of prescription medication the Columbus Division of Police Narcotics bureau, Career Criminal Unit, Franklin County Sheriff Office, Special Investigation Unit and Franklin County Prosecuting Attorney Ron O’Brien’s Office, initiated a covert investigation into the matter. As a result of the investigation over 50 suspects were identified as conspiring to obtain prescription pills, most prevalently Oxycodone, from cities in Georgia, Florida, Virginia, Maryland and Missouri. The conspirators were financed by the leaders of the conspiracy/organization to travel out of state, see a doctor and obtain prescriptions for fraudulent injuries. After obtaining the prescriptions the conspirators would fill the prescriptions, either in Florida, Virginia or Maryland. Once the prescriptions were filled the leaders of the organization would take control of the pills and sell them on the streets of Columbus. At the culmination of the investigation detectives were able to show that the organization was responsible for 63,781 Oxycodone 30 mg’s and 29,680 Oxycodone 15 mg’s (In addition to hundreds of Oxycontin 80 mg tablets, and other prescription pills such as Hydrocodone and Alprazolam) Street Value for Oxy 30's: 63,781 * 30mg = 1,913,430mg at $1/mg = $1,913,430.00 Street Value for Oxy 15's: 29,680 * 15mg = 445,200mg at $1/mg = $445,200.00 Total Street Value = $2,358,630.00 (2.36 million dollars) On August 3, 2012 the Franklin County Grand Jury issued indictments on 47 conspirators with 262 individual charges. The indictments included charges of Engaging in a Pattern of Corrupt Activity, Aggravated Possession of Drugs, Trafficking in Drugs and Having Weapons While under Disability.
