DRUG IMPAIRED DRIVER INDICTED FOR AGGRAVATED VEHICULAR HOMICIDE IN DEATH OF 61 YEAR OLD WOMAN

Franklin County Prosecutor Ron O’Brien said, “This man had drugs in his system when he drove the wrong direction up the entrance ramp and struck the victim and her three passengers head-on as they travelled on the ramp from eastbound Refugee Road to westbound U.S. Route 33.” Franklin County Prosecutor Ron O’Brien announced that the Franklin County Grand Jury has returned an indictment against Richard Miguel Hough, age 42, in connection to the August 8, 2017 afternoon crash that killed Betty P. Griggs, age 61. Hough has been indicted for one count Aggravated Vehicular Homicide (F-2), one count Aggravated Vehicular Homicide (F-3), three counts of Aggravated Vehicular Assault (F-3), three counts of Aggravated Vehicular Assault (F-4), one count of Operating a Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol, a Drug of Abuse or a Combination of Them (M-1), and three counts of Operating a Vehicle While Under the Influence of a Listed Controlled Substance or a Listed Metabolite of a Controlled Substance (M-1), for a total of twelve counts. “The indictment alleges in the OVI counts that at the time of the crash the defendant had a concentration of cocaine and cocaine and marihuana metabolite in his urine and/or blood,” O’Brien stated. Betty Griggs was transported to Grant Medical Center where she succumbed to her injuries a short time later and was pronounced dead. Amanda Griggs, the front seat passenger, was transported and admitted to Grant Medical Center for treatment, and Amanda’s two children were transported to Nationwide Children’s Hospital for treatment. Hough is scheduled to be arraigned this afternoon, December 1st, 2017 at 1:30 pm at 345 S. High Street in downtown Columbus.
