TWO SEPARATE AND UNRELATED PARENTS INDICTED FOR INVOLUNTARY MANSLAUGHTER IN THE DEATHS OF THEIR RESPECTIVE CHILDREN

Defendant: Steven M. Wallen and Nina L. Straty

            Prosecutor Ron O’Brien stated, “An innocent toddler shot to death in one family and a newborn baby with a drug overdose in another family have both died while in the care of their respective parent.”  Prosecutor Ron O’Brien announced that the Franklin County Grand Jury has returned indictments on two separate and unrelated individuals for Involuntary Manslaughter and Endangering Children.
            Steven Matthew Wallen, age 26, has been indicted for Involuntary Manslaughter (F-1) and Endangering Children (F-3), both counts with Firearm Specifications, in connection to the September 10th, 2017 shooting death of his 3 year old toddler son.  This occurred at 3824 Wade Road after the toddler and his twin brother found a gun that was unattended, loaded and not stored properly by his father.
            Nina Loucia Straty, age 24, has been indicted for Involuntary Manslaughter (F-1) and Endangering Children (F-3) in connection with the death of her 27 day old newborn daughter.  The child died as a result of acute intoxication by methadone and cocaine that occurred at a home located at 477 Wyandotte Avenue while in the care of her mother.
