DEATH PENALTY INDICTMENT FILED ON KRISTOFER DESHAN GARRETT FOR STABBING MURDERS OF HIS FOUR YEAR OLD DAUGHTER AND HER MOTHER

Defendant: Kristofer Deshan Garrett
Prosecutor Ron O’Brien said, “This man waited in the early morning hours for a mother and daughter to come out of their home, only to viciously stab them to death.” Prosecutor Ron O’Brien announces that the Franklin County Grand Jury has returned a four count death penalty indictment on Kristofer Deshan Garrett, age 24, in connection to the January 5th, 2018 double murders of his four year old daughter and her mother Nicole Antionette Duckson, age 34, that occurred at a home located in the two thousand block of Fleet Road on the southeast side of Columbus.
The counts in Garrett’s indictment include Aggravated Murder of Nicole Duckson (prior calculation and design), Aggravated Murder of daughter (prior calculation and design), and Aggravated Murder of daughter (victim under the age of 13). The specifications to these counts that make Garrett eligible for the death penalty include killing two or more people during his course of conduct, committing the offense to escape detection, apprehension, trial, or punishment for another offense committed by him, and killing a child under the age of 13. “There are multiple charges regarding the two victim deaths because there are different methods to commit the crime of murder and the Prosecutor’s Office typically charges all methods,” O’Brien stated. There is also one count of Tampering With Evidence in the indictment.
It is alleged that Garrett waited at the home and brutally stabbed both victims when they exited the house that morning. Nicole was supposed to pick up a co-worker that morning, and when she didn’t arrive, the co-worker went to Nicole’s residence to check on her, only to find both bodies in the backyard of the house. Police and Medics were dispatched to the scene and both victims were pronounced dead at the scene. Garrett had fled the scene and was apprehended later that night. O’Brien commended the Columbus Police Department for their quick apprehension of Garrett. Arraignment for this death penalty case is set for Wednesday, January 17th, 2018, at 1:30 pm in courtroom 2B at 345 South High Street in downtown Columbus.
