Defendant: James Anthony Gentile

Prosecutor Ron O’Brien said, “This is a case of domestic violence where this man raped and killed his wife who had separated from him.”  Prosecutor Ron O’Brien announces that the Franklin County Grand Jury has returned a seven count indictment on James Anthony Gentile, age 55, in connection to the June 4th, 2018 stabbing death of his wife Dana A. Gentile, age 55, that occurred in their home located at 1112 Carousel Court in Westerville.  The counts in Gentile’s indictment include two counts of Aggravated Murder, two counts of Murder, two counts of Rape, and one count of Tampering with Evidence.  “There are multiple murder charges regarding the one victim death because there are different methods to commit the crime of murder and the Prosecutor’s Office typically charges all methods,” O’Brien stated.  Following the murder, a neighbor doing yard work called 911 and told the dispatcher that Gentile had just told him that he killed his wife.  After Gentile talked to the neighbor, he fled the scene in a black Honda Accord with a temporary tag.  Police were en route to the home when they spotted the black Honda going northbound on Spring Street where they initiated a traffic stop of the vehicle.  O’Brien further stated, “Additional officers and medics arrived at the scene of the murder and pronounced the victim deceased.”  O’Brien commended the Genoa Township and Westerville Police Departments for their quick apprehension of Gentile and investigation of the case.  Arraignment for this case is set for Monday, June 18th, 2018, at 1:30 pm in courtroom 2B at 345 South High Street in downtown Columbus.
