Defendant: Antwan Blackwell

Prosecutor Ron O’Brien stated, “This woman was waiting to catch the 5:20 am COTA bus to get to work, when she was grabbed by a stranger at gun point, led into an alley and behind a store, where she was repeatedly raped by this defendant.”  Prosecutor Ron O’Brien announced today that the Franklin County Grand Jury has returned an eight count indictment on Antwan Blackwell, age 39, for one count of (F-1) Kidnapping with Specification, six counts of (F-1) Rape with Specification, and one count of (F-3) Having Weapon Under Disability, in connection to the October 24th, 2018 rape of a 51 year old victim.  At approximately 5:15 am that morning, the victim was waiting for a COTA bus at the intersection of Sullivant Avenue and S. Glenwood Avenue.  Shortly thereafter, the defendant approached the victim, ordered the victim at gunpoint to walk to a nearby vacant area, where it is alleged in the indictment that Blackwell repeatedly raped her.   After the sexual assault Blackwell left the scene and the victim called the police.  The victim had a sexual assault exam completed which was submitted to the crime lab for testing.  A DNA profile was obtained and it came back with a CODIS match belonging to Blackwell.  The WUD count in the indictment pertains to a 2017 Domestic Violence conviction for Blackwell in Franklin County.  Arraignment for Blackwell is set for Tuesday, November 13th, 2018, at 1:30 pm in courtroom 2B at 345 S. High Street in downtown Columbus.
