PROSECUTOR O'BRIEN OBJECTS TO PAROLE FOR NOTORIOUS COLUMBUS SERIAL RAPIST-DR. EDWARD F. JACKSON JR.

Posted on 6/17/2019

Defendant: DR. EDWARD F. JACKSON

In the early morning hours of September 5, 1982 a well-known local physician was
arrested exiting a woman's apartment after a neighbor called the police upon observing someone remove a screen from a window and enter the apartment. That man was Dr. Edward F. Jackson Jr. and a police search of his car that was parked nearby revealed a list of sixty different women with dates after their names. A serial rapist of legendary proportions who had been raping Columbus women between 1975-1982 would be finally brought to justice, and after two separate trials was sentenced to 191-665 years and 91-320 years in prison.

Yet, despite that sentence, in August 2019 Dr. Jackson is once again eligible for parole, and once again on behalf of OVER THIRTY-SIXTY RAPE VICTIMS Prosecutor O'Brien has voiced strong opposition to Jackson ever being released from prison on parole. Jackson's sexual assaults had a clear pattern: he wore a ski mask, the victims were tied up with knotted ropes, and he called them by name. This all demonstrated the level of preparation for these offenses, the mark of a true predator. Many of the victims on that list did not want to be included in the charges filed against Jackson in the hope that the State could secure a lengthy sentence
without the need for them to be forced to re-live their rape by testifying in open court.

O'Brien spoke with one of Jackson's rape victims last year and even now if she hears a noise in the middle of the night she has a flashback to when Jackson raped her inside her own home. Jackson's crime continues to haunt her and quite surely many of his other victims, and for that reason O'Brien firmly believes that Jackson should die in an Ohio prison.

At this point, Jackson has served barely one year for each victim that he left with life-long trauma. O'Brien said "Notorious serial rapist Dr. Edward Jackson should not be released from prison now or ever".

Common Pleas Case Nos. 82CR-3081, 82 CR-4046

Dear Ms. Thalheimer:
In August 2019 the above inmate is once again eligible for parole, and once again on behalf of OVER THIRTY-SIXTY RAPE VICTIMS I write to voice strong opposition to Jackson ever being released from prison on parole. Dr. Edward F. Jackson Jr. is a serial rapist of legendary proportion. Between 1975-1982, Dr. Jackson raped and terrorized Columbus area women as they slept in their beds. He was finally arrested when a neighbor saw him removing a screen from a potential victim's home and called the police. When the police responded, Jackson was caught outside that residence and his car was parked nearby. We have all heard stories about how rapists take a trophy, or keep a personal list of their rape victims, so that they may re-live the sexual assault at a later time. Confirming this, the police found a terrifying piece of evidence in Jackson's car: a list of sixty names of women with dates next to them. The investigation showed that this was the long list of his many rape victims over a seven year period. Jackson's sexual assaults had a clear pattern: he wore a ski mask, the victims were tied up with knotted ropes, and he called them by name. This all demonstrated a level of preparation for these offenses, the mark of a true predator. Many of the victims on that list did not want to be included in the charges filed against Jackson in the hope that the State could secure a lengthy sentence without the need for them to recount their rape by testifying in open court.

I spoke with one of Jackson's rape victims last year and even now if she hears a noise in the middle of the night she has a flashback to when Jackson raped her inside her own residence. Jackson's crime continues to haunt her and I am sure many other of his victims, and for that reason I firmly believe that he should die in an Ohio prison.

After two trials in different counties due to a change of venue, Jackson was convicted of raping 36 different women and sentenced to 191-665 years and 91-3 20 years in prison. At this point, he has served barely one year for each victim that he left with life-long trauma. He should not be released at this time or ever .
