MAN INDICTED FOR RAPE OF EX-GIRLFRIEND HE KIDNAPPED AT GUNPOINT FROM HER HOME WHILE SHE WAS SLEEPING

Prosecutor Ron O’Brien stated, “This victim was asleep in her first floor bedroom when her ex-boyfriend broke open her bedroom window, fired a shot inside the room, forced her at gunpoint out of her house and into his vehicle, and fled the scene.  During the kidnapping she was beaten and raped by this defendant.”  Prosecutor Ron O’Brien announced today that the Franklin County Grand Jury has returned a seven count indictment on Da’Shawn T. Drew, age 34, for Improperly Discharging a Firearm at or into a Habitation, Aggravated Burglary, Kidnapping, Felonious Assault (2 counts), Rape (all with Firearm Specifications), and Improperly Handling Firearms in a Motor Vehicle, in connection to the February 26th  2020 kidnapping and rape of his ex-girlfriend.  Shortly after 3:30 am, police received a call about a kidnapping in progress in the 3000 block of E. 12th Avenue.  Officers were able to locate the vehicle  being driven by the suspect and transported the defendant to jail.  Medics arrived to transport the victim to the hospital.  O’Brien commended both the Columbus Police and the Ohio State Highway Patrol for their rapid apprehension of this suspect.  Arraignment for Drew is set for Monday, March 9th, 2020, at 1:30 pm in courtroom 2B at 345 S. High Street in downtown Columbus.
