Nasear Smith Guilty Plea

Defendant: Nasear Smith
On June 14, 2022, Nasear Smith pled guilty to Involuntary Manslaughter for causing the death of Derek Hoston. Today, Mr. Smith was sentenced to an indefinite prison term for a minimum of at least 10 years and a maximum of 15 years.
On May 10, 2021 at approximately 1:20 a.m. Mr. Hoston and a friend drove over to his ex-girlfriend’s residence. They knocked on the front door but, no one answered. After hearing noise coming from inside the residence, they walked over to a window and seeing the ex-girlfriend and Mr. Smith, they knocked on the window.
Mr. Smith fired 2 shots out the window. One shot hit Mr. Hoston in the chest the other hit his friend in the hip. Mr. Hoston was able to retreat to the parking lot where he fell to the ground. When police arrived on the scene, a gun belonging to Mr. Hoston was found next to Mr. Hoston. Mr. Hoston passed away within a few minutes of being shot.
