Defendant:

A Franklin County grand jury on Wednesday, Oct. 5, declined to return an indictment in the shooting death of Andrew Teague.
On March 5, 2021, multiple law enforcement agencies engaged in the extensive surveillance of Teague, 43, who failed to comply with efforts by law enforcement to arrest him on outstanding felony warrants. Teague eventually led law enforcement on a pursuit. While traveling northbound on I-270, Teague conducted a U-turn and drove southbound in the northbound lanes for several minutes at high speeds.

After striking several vehicles, Teague’s vehicle came to rest in the area of Big Walnut Creek. Teague climbed out of the driver’s side window holding a firearm and fired multiple shots toward law enforcement officers. Columbus Division of Police Officer John Kifer and Franklin County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Michael Severance returned fire, striking and killing Teague. No members of law enforcement were injured.

A grand jury only inquires whether a crime has been committed and, in this incident, whether any degree of unlawful criminal homicide occurred.
