Defendant: Shawna Casey
Franklin County Court of Common Pleas Judge Daniel Hawkins sentenced Shawna Casey to 7 to 10½ years in prison today following Casey’s guilty plea to one count of telecommunications fraud and one count of aggravated theft.
Between March 23, 2018, and June 30, 2021, Casey used her position as an accounts receivable clerk to embezzle from two employers, Ideal Precision in Whitehall and KidsLinked in Upper Arlington.
Casey, who was responsible for collecting outstanding bills from customers, created an account with Square, a credit card processor, for each employer. She redirected $763,775.70 from Ideal Precision and $192,479.60 from KidsLinked into her personal checking account.
On July 15, 2021, officers with the Whitehall Police Department arrested Casey for the crime against Ideal Precision. Casey was out on bond on Dec. 8, 2021, when the Upper Arlington Police Department arrested her for the crime against KidsLinked. She posted bond following that arrest.
Judge Hawkins sentenced Casey to 7 to 10½ years for telecommunications fraud for the case involving Ideal Precision and 36 months for aggravated theft for the case involving KidsLinked. The sentences will run concurrently.
Brendan Inscho, assistant prosecuting attorney with the Franklin County Prosecutor’s office, prosecuted this case.
