Franklin County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office secures guilty verdict in 2021 murder case

A Franklin County jury on Friday Oct. 20 found Othman Abdu, 20, of Blacklick, guilty of two counts of murder, aggravated murder and felonious assault in two separate shootings in Columbus. Michael Shaw and Steven Schott, assistant prosecuting attorneys with the Franklin County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, prosecuted the case.

A jury determined on October 31, 2021, Abdu shot and killed Winton outside of Winton’s apartment in southeast Columbus. Earlier the same day Abdu shot another victim on 725 Wedgewood Drive in west Columbus. That victim survived with a minor injury.

Franklin County Court of Common Pleas Judge Sheryl Munson will sentence Abdu Nov. 16. Abdu faces a minimum term of life in prison with parole eligibility after 39 years and a maximum possible sentence of life without parole.
