Franklin County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office secures guilty plea in 2023 homicide case

On April 2, the Franklin County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office secured a guilty plea from Cassandra Franklin, 41, of Columbus, for the 2023 fatal shooting of Michael Sarratt. Assistant Prosecuting Attorneys Jack Wong and Gillian Bateyunga prosecuted the case for the prosecutor’s office.

On the evening of February 22, 2023, investigators determined Franklin entered a Columbus residence and assaulted Sarratt and another resident. During a struggle, Franklin shot and killed Sarratt. Franklin pleaded guilty to one count of involuntary manslaughter with a three-year gun specification and one count of burglary.

Franklin County Court of Common Pleas Judge Dan Hawkins sentenced Franklin to 18 to 23.5 years in prison.
