Defendant: Michael Mickens Jr.

On April 11, the Franklin County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office secured a guilty plea from Michael Mickens Jr., 27, for the 2023 fatal shooting of Isiaha Thompson-Angus. Assistant Prosecuting Attorneys Mark Wodarcyk and Zachary Imwalle prosecuted the case for the prosecutor’s office.

In the early morning of June 19, 2023, Columbus Division of Police officers discovered Thompson-Angus dead near a trash dumpster behind an apartment on High St. near West Starr Ave. The investigation revealed Mickens shot Thompson-Angus following a dispute between Thompson-Angus and Mickens’ brother.

Mickens pled guilty to a charge of murder. Franklin County Court of Common Pleas Judge Jaiza Page immediately sentenced Mickens to a mandatory 15 years to life in prison.
