Defendant: Kevin Sobnosky

A Franklin County jury on Monday found Keimariyon Ross, 20, of Columbus, guilty on nine counts related to the 2022 shooting death of Kevin Sobnosky, 21, an honors student from Girard, Ohio.

Senior Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Jeffrey Zezech prosecuted the case. He commended Lead Detective Scott Polgar and the other detectives involved in the investigation for their work on the case.

On Oct. 30, 2022, Sobnosky and three of his friends were getting ready to drive back to Youngstown after attending a party at Ohio State University. They stopped for gas at a convenience store on the east side of Columbus, where two groups of people unrelated to Sobnosky and his friends were getting into a confrontation that led to a shootout. Ross fired several rounds into the car Sobnosky was in, killing him.

After a six-day trial, the jury convicted Ross on two counts of murder, three counts of attempted murder, three counts of felonious assault, and improperly handling a firearm in a motor vehicle. Judge Stephen McIntosh, who presided over the trial, will sentence Ross at a hearing on Sept. 5, 2024.
