Defendant: Frank Mitchell
The Franklin County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office secured a guilty plea Monday from Frank Mitchell, 66, of Columbus, for the killing of Dominick Braxton, 40, of Columbus, in August 2021. Mitchell entered an Alford guilty plea to voluntary manslaughter, a first-degree felony, which means he avoids the potential consequences of a trial without admitting guilt.
Judge Michael Holbrook immediately sentenced Mitchell to serve 7 to 10-1/2 years in prison with 985 days of credit for time already served.
On Aug. 24, 2021, Braxton and an acquaintance were asked to move furniture in Columbus’ Mount Vernon neighborhood. As Braxton left the residence, a man later identified as Mitchell approached Braxton and shot him in the face, killing him.
Assistant prosecutors Michael McLean and David Walsh prosecuted the case for the prosecutor’s office.
