Defendant: Brandarius Agnew

A Franklin County judge on Tuesday found Brandarius Agnew, 28, of Westerville, guilty of murdering William Dammond in 2022.

Assistant Prosecuting Attorneys Zach Imwalle and Brian Morgan prosecuted the case for the prosecutor’s office.

Officers and investigators with the Columbus Division of Police responded to a report of a stabbing at a housing complex on Cooper Colony Drive on Oct. 22, 2022. Dammond, the stabbing victim, identified his neighbor, Agnew, as his attacker before he died at the hospital.

Agnew told police he stabbed Dammond but pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity. He waived his right to a jury trial. Judge Andy Miller found Agnew guilty of murder, of a repeat violent specification on the murder charge, and of tampering with evidence.

Agnew faces a potential life sentence with the opportunity for parole after 15 to 25 years. Judge Miller scheduled sentencing for Jan. 14, 2025.
