Defendant: Skyler Burley

A Columbus man who shot and killed a 17-year-old following a road-rage incident in southwest Columbus was sentenced today to 18 years to life in prison.

Skyler Burley, 30, pleaded guilty to one count of murder with a 3-year firearm specification in exchange for the possibility of parole after 18 years.

Case Background

Shortly after 8 p.m. on Aug. 13, 2024, Columbus Police were called to a United Dairy Farmers parking lot in the 3500 block of Clime Road on the report of a shooting. There, they found Gage Anderson, 17, of South Shore, Kentucky, unresponsive and suffering from a gunshot wound.

Anderson was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead at 8:40 p.m.

A police helicopter quickly located a vehicle that witnesses described as leaving the scene of the shooting. The driver, Burley, was taken into custody near the intersection of Lynward Road and Maurine Drive, about a mile from the crime scene.

An investigation revealed that Anderson and Burley did not know each other, and that the shooting had stemmed from an earlier road-rage incident.
