Defendant: Daveonte Dixon

Today, a Franklin County Grand Jury indicted Daveonte Dixon on several charges related to the May 28th shooting of two Mifflin Township police officers and shooting toward four Franklin County Sheriff’s Deputies.  Dixon is charged with:

  • 2 counts of Attempted Murder
  • 6 counts of Felonious Assault
  • 1 count of Tampering with Evidence
  • 2 counts of Having a Weapon While Under Disability

Each count of Attempted Murder and Felonious Assault carries a 3-year gun specification, a 7-year gun specification for shooting at officers, and a Repeat Violent Offender specification.

If convicted of all counts, Dixon faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 40 years in prison, with a potential sentence of up to 163 years in prison.

"Mr. Dixon’s decision to open fire on law enforcement endangered not just those officers, but the entire community,” said Franklin County Prosecutor Shayla Favor. “Such violence is a direct assault on public safety and we will pursue full accountability under the law. We stand firmly with the officers who risk their lives each day, and with every victim of violent crime in our community.”

Background

On May 28, 2025, a Mifflin Township Police Officer observed a vehicle obstructing traffic in the middle of Agler Road and initiated a stop.  A second officer arrived shortly thereafter.  During the stop, the front seat passenger, later identified as Daveonte Dixon, exited the vehicle and fled on foot.  As the officers pursued him, Dixon allegedly pulled a handgun and opened fire, striking both officers before fleeing the scene.

Dixon evaded capture for two days with the assistance of several individuals. On May 30, law enforcement located him at a residence on Thelma Drive. When Franklin County Sheriff’s SWAT officers attempted to make contact, Dixon fired multiple rounds from a rifle —targeting four deputies outside. When gunfire ceased, officers entered the home and found Dixon with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.  He was transported to a hospital for treatment. He remains in a hospital and will be arraigned at a later date.

“I believe it is imperative Mr. Dixon be held accountable for his actions,” said Mifflin Township Police Chief David Briggs. “I am grateful the Franklin County Prosecutor’s Office has dedicated prosecutors to this case, who I believe have the best interest of not only my officers, but the citizens of Franklin County and Mifflin Township.”

"We respect the judicial process and fully support the work of the Prosecutor’s Office as this case moves forward,” said Sheriff Dallas Baldwin.

Both Mifflin Twp. officers who were shot continue to recover and are expected to make a full recovery.

“I am deeply grateful to these officers for their courage and commitment to protecting this community,” said Franklin County Prosecutor Shayla Favor. “We are all wishing them a full and speedy recovery as they heal from this senseless act of violence.”

Update on Defendants Charged for Assisting Dixon

Nine people have been indicted with assisting Dixon evade capture.  Three defendants, Kaitlyn Mellon, Grace Mellon, and Isaiah Ingle pled guilty to Obstructing Justice, a felony of the third degree. All three were sentenced to three years of community control with a reserved 3-year prison sentence. This sentence, coupled with the absence of a prior criminal record, was supported by the lead detective and the officers who were shot.

The remaining six co-defendants have court hearings scheduled as follows:
  • August 7 – Elijah Robinson
  • August 13 – Aunusti Solomon
  • August 27 – Jennifer Dale and Nathan Brown
  • September 17 – Jayla Call
  • Namina Goler’s hearing has been continued to a later date that has yet to be determined.
