Case Background

On Sept. 19, 2024, in the South Linden area, Columbus Police responded to an emergency report of a shooting. There, they located Rayshawn Rogers, 33, suffering from a gunshot wound in critical condition. Rogers eventually died as a result of the shooting.

Police located surveillance footage from cameras over 100 yards away that captured four men hiding behind a house. Simultaneously, they all fired towards Mr. Rogers’ location.  Of the 16 shots fired, one struck Mr. Rogers.  Another shot struck a house and vehicle nearby.

Two additional victims who were with Mr. Rogers, fortunately, did not suffer any physical injuries. The four men were arrested and taken into custody on Oct. 3, 2024.

CPD’s investigation revealed the men arrived in a stolen vehicle.  Police tracked the suspects to multiple locations where their faces were clearly visible, and they were wearing the same clothing as during the shooting. Some later admitted to police that they fired their weapons that night.

Jason Manning and Steve Schott were the prosecutors on this case.
