18-YEAR-OLD BOYFRIEND INDICTED FOR FATAL SHOOTING OF 17-YEAR-OLD UPPER ARLINGTON HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT

Prosecutor Ron O’Brien said, “An 18-year-old now faces a felony indictment following the mishandling of a gun with fatal consequences.” 

            Prosecutor Ron O’Brien announced today that the Franklin County Grand Jury has returned an indictment against Thomas Pride Gutierrez, age 18, for one count of Reckless Homicide with a Firearm Specification (F-3), in connection to the August 2, 2016 tragic shooting death of Upper Arlington High School student Daylee Nicole Blaze Newman, age 17, that occurred inside a house located at 486 E. Markison Avenue in Vassor Village on the south side of Columbus.  “Educating and warning people about the dangers of guns is not enough if one makes the decision to recklessly play with/handle the firearm,” O’Brien stated.  

            Gutierrez will be arraigned on Wednesday, August 17th at 1:30 pm in courtroom 2B at the Court of Common Pleas, 345 S. High Street.
