Defendant: Deanthoni Santwan Truss

Prosecutor Ron O’Brien said, “This man opened fire in a convenience store filled with numerous patrons, killing one and injuring two others before he fled the scene.”  Prosecutor Ron O’Brien announced today that the Franklin County Grand Jury has returned an indictment against Deanthoni Santwan Truss, age 22, for one count of Aggravated Murder with Specification (UF), two counts of Murder with Specification (UF), two counts of Attempted Murder with Specification (F-1), two counts of Felonious Assault with Specification (F-2), and three counts of Felonious Assault with Specification (F-1), for a total of ten counts in connection to the June 8th, 2016 shooting death of Tommie Brown, age 21, and wounding of Kris Pace, age 24, and William Brown, Jr., age 25, that occurred at the Quick Stop Convenience Store located at 2276 E. Fifth Avenue north of Bexley.  “There are three counts of aggravated murder/murder with only one deceased victim, because under Ohio law, there are different ways to commit the crime of murder and it is my practice to charge all ways that the crime was committed”, O’Brien stated.  “Counts eight, nine, and ten in the indictment have both three and seven year firearm specifications.  Those counts are in connection to the November 17, 2016 apprehension of Truss from the barricade situation at the Sheraton at 201 Hutchinson Avenue just north of Worthington, where Truss fired his weapon at three Police Officers,” O’Brien further stated.  O’Brien commended the Columbus Police detectives, SWAT personnel, Ohio State Highway Patrol, and the U.S. Marshals Service for their apprehension of Truss.  Truss will be arraigned on Friday, November 25th at 9:00 am in courtroom 2B at 345 S. High Street.
