Defendant: Andrew Michael McGowan

Prosecutor Ron O’Brien said, “The tragic death of this young woman is the result of this man killing his daughter’s mother.  Following the murder, he attempted to dispose of her body.”  Prosecutor Ron O’Brien announced today that the Franklin County Grand Jury has returned an indictment against Andrew Michael McGowan, age 29, for one count Aggravated Murder with Specification (unclassified), two counts Murder with Specification (unclassified), one count Kidnapping with Specification (F-1), one count Tampering with Evidence (F-3), and one count Gross Abuse of a Corpse (F-5), for a total of six counts, in connection to the February 19-20, 2017 murder of his daughter’s mother Gabriel Ann Hinojosa, age 22, who was last seen with McGowan on February 19th.  Many of the counts in the indictment have a Repeat Violent Offender Specification as McGowan has an Aggravated Robbery conviction from 2005.  The indictment alleges that after McGowan murdered Gabriel, he put her body in a recycling container.  The container and her body were discovered on February 24th by a group of people kayaking along the Big Darby Creek.  O’Brien commended Sgt. Bill Duffer, Det. Bryan Meister, and the Franklin County Sheriff’s office for their thorough investigation and quick apprehension of McGowan, as well as the investigation by the Columbus Police Department Missing Person’s Unit.   McGowan will be arraigned on Monday, April 10th at 1:30 pm in courtroom 2B at 345 S. High Street in downtown Columbus.
