Defendant: Dwayne Alvin Bonner
Franklin County Prosecutor Ron O’Brien stated, “This 89 year old man was sitting in his vehicle parked in his driveway preparing to leave for church when he was robbed at gunpoint.” Franklin County Prosecutor Ron O’Brien announced that the Franklin County Grand Jury has returned an indictment against Dwayne Alvin Bonner, age 22, in connection to the attack that occurred on Cunard Road, two blocks east of Scottwood Elementary School, around 8:00 am on Sunday, July 9th, 2017. The victim was getting ready to leave his home when Bonner allegedly pointed a gun at his face and demanded that he exit his vehicle. The victim complied, Bonner allegedly pushed him to the ground, and proceeded to steal the victim’s car. Approximately an hour later police spotted the stolen car, were led on an approximate two mile pursuit, the car eventually stopped, Bonner fled from the car and was apprehended shortly thereafter. Bonner has been indicted for one count Aggravated Robbery and one count Kidnapping (both with Firearm and Repeat Violent Offender Specifications), two counts Failure to Comply with an Order or Signal of a Police Officer and one count Having Weapons While Under Disability (all three counts with Firearm Specifications). The basis for the WUD count is that Bonner has a prior Robbery conviction from November of 2013, was adjudicated a delinquent child of Assault in February of 2013, and was adjudicated a delinquent child of Robbery in November of 2012. O’Brien commended the Columbus Police for their immediate assistance and response in this case. Arraignment for Bonner is set for Friday, July 21st, at 1:30 pm in courtroom 2B at 345 S. High Street in downtown Columbus.
