Crash Confession Defendant Indicted For Aggravated Vehicular Homicide

Prosecutor Ron O’Brien announced today that the Franklin County Grand Jury has indicted Matthew R. Cordle of Powell, age 22, for one count (F-2) Aggravated Vehicular Homicide, and one count (M-1) Operating a Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol or Drugs, for a total of two counts, in connection to the June 22, 2013 wrong way head on collisions which resulted in the death of Vincent Canzani of Gahanna, age 61. The crash occurred in the vicinity of I-670 and 3rd street at approximately 2:45 am. The indictment alleges Cordle had a blood alcohol level of .191 at the time of the crash. Last week Cordle confessed in a video posted online that he was to blame for the wrong way crash that occurred after he had spent the night drinking. “If convicted on these charges, Cordle faces a maximum sentence of 8-1/2 years incarceration”, O’Brien stated. Arraignment for Cordle is set for Tuesday, September 10th at 1:30 pm in courtroom 7E with Judge Lynch at 345 S. High Street in Columbus.
