DRIVER WHO KILLED FATHER OF SIX IN CRASH INDICTED FOR AGGRAVATED VEHICULAR HOMICIDE

Prosecutor Ron O’Brien said, “The tragic death of this husband and father of six children was the result of this man’s decision to drive while intoxicated”. Prosecutor Ron O’Brien announced today that the Franklin County Grand Jury has returned a four count indictment against Antoine Tyrell Briggs, age 31, in connection to the February 19, 2017 crash that occurred on the entrance ramp from Alum Creek Drive to I-70 eastbound on the east side of Columbus at approximately 11:30 pm. It is alleged that Briggs recklessly drove his Camaro into a guardrail, crossed over the lane, and drove off the roadway where his car then vaulted into the driver’s side of a Dodge Durango that was being driven by the victim, Louis Bamala, age 49. Bamala was trapped in his vehicle and had to be mechanically extracted from the Durango. He was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly thereafter. The counts in the indictment include Aggravated Vehicular Homicide and Operating a Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol, a Drug of Abuse or a Combination of Them. Brigg’s was driving with a suspended license and his BAC level was 0.209 grams at the time of the crash.
