Defendant: Ross Shane

Prosecutor Ron O’Brien announced today that the Franklin County Grand Jury has returned an indictment against Ross E. Shane, age 43, for one count Attempted Rape with Specification (F-2). Shane allegedly engaged in online conversations with who he believed was the father of a 12 year old boy, to solicit sexual activity with his son. Shane showed up at the meet location on November 15, 2012, was arrested, and subsequently posted bond. It was recently discovered that the defendant coaches a Dublin youth football league and is an assistant baseball coach. O’Brien commended the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office Internet Crimes Against Children unit for their investigation of this case. “An F-2 felony would normally carry a 2 to 8 year sentence, however, because of the specification (Child Under 13), this becomes a mandatory term of 5 to 25 years incarceration and this is also a Tier 3 Registration offense, which would require the defendant to register every 90 days for life if convicted ”, O’Brien stated.
