FATHER WITH TWO TODDLERS IN CAR INDICTED FOR MULTIPLE WEAPONS OFFENSES

Defendant: Johnny Lee Schumacher AKA Johnny Lee Schumaker

Prosecutor Ron O’Brien announced today that the Franklin County Grand Jury has returned an indictment against Johnny Lee Schumacher AKA Johnny Lee Schumaker, age 30, for two counts Improperly Handling Firearms In A Motor Vehicle (F-4), eight counts Having Weapons While Under Disability (F-3), and four counts Receiving Stolen Property with Specification (F-4), for a total of fourteen counts, in connection to an incident that occurred on January 3rd, 2016 at the Speedway Gas Station located at 715 Brown Road in Columbus.  Authorities were contacted by an Ohio couple who expressed concern for the welfare of two toddlers in the back seat of a car after the driver went in the store and the passenger appeared passed out.  Franklin County Sheriff’s arrived at the scene and found drug paraphernalia, firearms, and ammunition in the vehicle.  Both Schumacher and his fiancée Ashlee Grubbs, age 27, have been charged with misdemeanor Child Endangering and Possessing Drug Abuse Instruments, and Schumacher has also been charged with a misdemeanor Illegal Use or Possession of Drug Paraphernalia charge stemming from this incident.  Yesterday in Municipal Court, Schumacher plead guilty to one Child Endangering charge and one Possessing Drug Abuse Instruments charge.  Further felony charges could be forthcoming after the completion of lab work being conducted in this case.  Schumacher has been previously convicted on a felony Possession of Drugs in case no. 11CR3428 and is currently awaiting sentencing on a Burglary count in case no. 15CR1195.  O’Brien praised the couple who called the police and commended the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office for their rapid response and thorough investigation of this case.  Arraignment is set for 1:30 this afternoon for Schumacher at 345 S. High Street.
