Half Million Dollar Embezzlement Case Indicted

Defendant: Joy Nutt
Prosecutor Ron O’Brien announces that the Franklin County Grand Jury has returned a one count indictment against Joy M. Nutt, a former employee of Nutis Press located at 2929 E. Broad Street. O’Brien said, “Nutt was a trusted employee who is alleged to have abused her position by embezzling over a half million dollars for approximately 3-1/2 years”.
Nutt has been indicted for one count (F-2) Theft. The Theft carries a maximum penalty of 8 years. Nutis Press has several subsidiary companies and those companies are used to purchase and sell real estate. Nutt’s position as bookkeeper at Nutis Press gave her access to the check books for these corporate accounts. Nutt was responsible for writing checks on these accounts for the purposes of paying bills on the properties held by each corporation. The indictment alleges that between 2006 and 2009, Joy Nutt had been writing and signing checks to herself, to cash, and to others, totaling in excess of $597,000.
Arraignment for Joy Nutt is set for April 2, 2010 at 1:30 pm in courtroom 1B.
