Defendant: Kalawn Rashad Lammkin
Prosecutor Ron O’Brien said, “This man went to the home of the mother of his toddler with the intent to cause her harm, but he shot and killed a guest at the house that got in his way and then fled the home with his son”. Prosecutor Ron O’Brien announced today that the Franklin County Grand Jury has returned an indictment against Kalawn Rashad Lammkin, age 24, for one count of Aggravated Murder with Specifications (UF), one count of Murder with Specifications (UF), one count of Kidnapping with Specifications (F-1), one count of Aggravated Burglary with Specifications (F-1), and one count of Having Weapons While Under Disability (F-3), for a total of five counts in connection to the August 2nd, 2016 shooting death of Jamie Garrett, age 26, that occurred at 146 N. Yale Avenue in Franklinton. “There are two counts of aggravated murder/murder with only one deceased victim, because under Ohio law, there are different ways to commit the crime of murder and it is my practice to charge all ways that the crime was committed”, O’Brien stated. O’Brien further stated, “Lammkin has a prior conviction from an offense that occurred in 2015 which is the basis of the Repeat Violent Offender specifications and the WUD count in the indictment”. Following the shooting of Garrett, Lammkin fled the scene with his one year old toddler. O’Brien commended the Columbus Police detectives, Special Victims Bureau, and SWAT personnel for their apprehension of Lammkin and for the safe rescue and return of the toddler to his mother. Lammkin will be arraigned on Friday, August 12th at 1:30 pm in courtroom 2B at 345 S. High Street.
