Defendant: Ronald Ayers

Prosecutor Ron O’Brien announced today that the Franklin County Grand Jury has returned a four count indictment on Ronald Eugene Ayers, age 34, for one count (F-1) Rape with Specification, two counts (F-1) Kidnapping with Specification, and one count (F-3) Having Weapon Under Disability, in connection to the October 21st, 2013 rape of Veronica Perkins, age 27.  At approximately 6:30 am that morning, the victim and her 3-year old daughter were waiting for a COTA bus at the intersection of N. Ohio Avenue and E. Long Street.   Shortly thereafter, the defendant approached the mom and daughter, ordered the victim and her toddler to walk to a nearby vacant area, where it is alleged in the indictment that Ayers then raped her as she held her daughter.   After the sexual assault he walked the mother and daughter back to the bus stop, threatened the victims, and waited with them until the bus arrived and the two victims boarded the bus.  After the bus pulled away, the victim told the bus driver she had just been raped.  Arraignment for Ayers is set for Monday, November 4th, 2013, at 1:30 pm.
