Man Indicted For Murder In The Death Of His 77 Year Old Grandmother

Prosecutor Ron O’Brien announced today that the Franklin County Grand Jury has returned an indictment against Timothy John Smith, age 35, for two counts Murder (unclassified) and one count Tampering with Evidence (F-3), for a total of three counts, in connection to the death of his grandmother Doris Durette, age 77, which was a proximate result of the assault on her by her grandson between August 3rd and 4th, 2013, that occurred inside her home located at 1761 Rosepoint Road on the south side of Columbus.    The Franklin County Coroner’s office ruled the grandmother’s death a homicide which was caused by blunt force trauma to the head and body. O’Brien stated, “if convicted, Smith faces a potential sentence of 15 to life for the murder of his grandmother.” Smith will be arraigned on Monday, August 19th at 1:30 pm in courtroom 2B at 345 S. High Street.
