Man Indicted For Murder In The Death Of His 90 Year Old Grandmother

Prosecutor Ron O’Brien announced today that the Franklin County Grand Jury has returned an indictment against John C. Spindler, age 41, for one count Murder (unclassified), one count Involuntary Manslaughter (F-1), and one count Felonious Assault (F-2), for a total of three counts, in connection to the death of his grandmother Annarea McCray, age 90, which was a proximate result of the assault on her by her grandson on June 13th, which occurred inside her home located at 1566 Vilardo Lane in Columbus. Spindler was previously indicted on June 19th for Domestic Violence and Felonious Assault for the beating of his 60 year old mother, Pam Haskins, and the assault on his grandmother Annarea when she attempted to come to her daughter’s assistance. Franklin County Coroner Jan Gorniak ruled the grandmother’s death six days after the assault a homicide. O’Brien stated, “if convicted, Spindler faces a potential sentence of 15 to life for the murder of his grandmother, with additional time expected for the attack on his mother.” Spindler will be arraigned on Friday, June 28th at 1:30 pm in courtroom 2B at 345 S. High Street.
