Defendant: Michael William Slager
Prosecutor Ron O’Brien announced today that the Franklin County Grand Jury has returned an indictment against Michael William Slager, age 40, for one count Aggravated Arson (F-1), one count Felonious Assault (F-2), and one count Possession of Criminal Tools (F-5), for a total of three counts, in connection to an incident that took place behind the Speedway gas station near the Heartland Bank branch at Stygler and Agler roads on August 2, 2015. It is alleged in the indictment that Slager threw gasoline on his girlfriend, Judith A. Malinowski, age 31, and then set her on fire. Witnesses called 911 and the victim was transported to an area hospital where she still remains in critical condition. “If convicted on all charges, Slager faces in excess of ten years in prison”, O’Brien stated. Arraignment for Slager will be set for next Monday, August 17, 2015, at 1:30 pm in courtroom 2B at 345 S. High Street.
