Defendant: Edward Bynum
Prosecutor Ron O’Brien announced today that the Franklin County Grand Jury has returned a two count Murder indictment against Edward Bynum, age 64 now, in connection to the August 1998 assault of Tina Franklin, when she was 34 years old. Bynum was originally indicted on charges of Attempted Murder and Felonious Assault for the attack and was found guilty by a jury on those charges. He was sentenced by Judge Daniel Hogan to ten years in prison, which he served, until he was released in 2008. Franklin has been in hospitals and long term care facilities since the attack, but she lost the battle to live on August 1, 2010, at the age of 46. The Franklin County Coroner’s Office has ruled her death as a homicide. “Despite the prior conviction, the double jeopardy clause permits prosecution for the homicide”, O’Brien stated.
