MAN WHO ATTACKED AND ROBBED 89 YEAR OLD WOMAN IN HER NORTH LINDEN HOME SENTENCED TO TWENTY-ONE YEARS IN PRISON

Prosecutor Ron O’Brien said, “This man was armed with a box cutter and a knife when he attacked the 89 year old victim in this case and threatened to rape and kill her.” Prosecutor Ron O’Brien announced that Leon Maurice Alexander, age 45, was sentenced today to twenty-one years in prison and was found to be a Repeat Violent Offender in connection to multiple prior convictions. On October 4th, Alexander plead guilty to one count of Aggravated Burglary (F-1), one count of Attempted Kidnapping (F-2), one count of Possessing Criminal Tools (F-5), one count of Aggravated Robbery (F-1), and one count of Felonious Assault (F-2) in connection to the May 23rd, 2016 early morning attack on the elderly woman. “The victim was sleeping in the living room when she was awakened by noises and seeing Alexander standing over her,” O’Brien stated. Alexander proceeded to beat the woman and ransacked her house. “Fortunately for the victim, her neighbor observed the unusual movement in the victim’s house and called the police,” O’Brien further stated. Alexander was also classified as a Tier II sex offender, and he will be required to register every 180 days for 25 years once he is released from prison.
