MAN WHO RAPED TEENAGER WHILE VICTIM’S FRIEND USED PERISCOPE APP TO LIVE STREAM THE RAPE PLEADS GUILTY

Franklin County Prosecutor Ron O’Brien said, “Fortunately for the victim in this case, a citizen in another state saw the live stream of the rape when it was occurring and reported the crime to the authorities.”  Prosecutor Ron O’Brien announced that Raymond Boyd Gates, age 29, plead guilty today to one count of Rape, in connection to the rape that occurred on February 27, 2016 at a home located on Christina Lane in Columbus.  The victim (age 17 at the time), her friend Marina Lonina, age 18, and Gates were socializing and at some point in the evening Gates forced sexual intercourse with the victim and Lonina started Periscoping (live-streaming in real time) the sexual assault.  Lonina had also photographed the victim in a state of nudity the night before at Lonina’s house located at 4146 Nafzger Drive in Columbus.   “Following the plea today, Gates was sentenced to nine years in prison,” O’Brien stated.  Lonina’s case is set for trial on December 12, 2016.
