North Side Man Indicted For Fatal Stabbing Of Wife

Prosecutor Ron O’Brien announced today that the Franklin County Grand Jury has returned an indictment against Leif H. Mortensen, age 72, for one count Murder (unclassified), and one count Tampering with Evidence (F-3), for a total of two counts, in connection to the February 13, 2013 stabbing of his wife Margaret, age 74, that occurred inside their home located at 4390 Kingpin Drive on the north side of Columbus. In the early afternoon, Police received a 911 call stating that Mortensen tried to kill himself with the same knife he used to stab his wife. O’Brien commended the 911 dispatcher and the Columbus Police for rapidly securing the area. If convicted on both charges, Mortensen faces a possible sentence in excess of fifteen years incarceration. He will be arraigned on Wednesday, February 27th at 1:30 pm in courtroom 2B at 345 S. High Street.
