Defendant: Frederick L. Baker
Today, Prosecutor Ron O’Brien announced that a local attorney has been arrested for accepting drugs in exchange for providing representation in a pending criminal case. On Wednesday, January 26, 2011, the Franklin County Sheriff’s office concluded a short investigation by arresting Frederick L. Baker, age 54, who resides in Westerville. Baker, a licensed attorney, is a 1982 Capital University Law School graduate, with an office at Columbus State Community College, located at 550 E. Spring Street in Columbus.
O’Brien stated, “Baker was arrested for illegal possession of the prescription painkiller drug Oxycodone, and due to the amount involved, it is a second-degree felony”. O’Brien further stated, “This offense is punishable by a maximum penalty of 8 years in prison”. Prosecutor O’Brien requested the Sheriff’s Office investigate the matter when he learned that Baker had offered to provide representation to a prisoner in the county jail at no cost, but in exchange for the painkiller drug Oxycodone. Baker was arrested when he accepted 100 Oxycodone from an undercover officer in exchange for the attorney fee in representing a prisoner in a pending criminal case. Baker’s bond was set at $50,000 and his preliminary hearing is set for February 4, 2011.
