PROSECUTOR’S ASK FOR THE MAXIMUM SENTENCE FOR DRIVER IN DOWNTOWN CRASH THAT KILLED TWO PEDESTRIANS; TRENT SENTENCED TO MAXIMUM OF THIRTEEN YEARS IN PRISON

Prosecutor Ron O’Brien said, “the tragic and avoidable deaths of two pedestrians was the result of this man driving recklessly through a downtown intersection.”  Prosecutor Ron O’Brien announced that Terrance Trent, age 63, was sentenced today to the maximum of thirteen years in prison.  On August 12th, following a five day jury trial, Trent was found guilty of two counts of Aggravated Vehicular Homicide and two counts of Aggravated Vehicular Assault, for a total of four counts, in connection to the December 12, 2014 double fatal crash that occurred in the intersection of Broad and High Streets in downtown Columbus.  Trent was speeding and driving his pick-up truck erratically through traffic.  A Groveport-Madison School bus, being driven by Brenda Detty, age 48, was transporting three students as it entered the intersection of Broad and High with a green light.  Also crossing the street at the same time with the “walk” signal were William Lewis, age 58, and Stephanie Fibelkorn, age 21.   Trent entered the intersection against a red light hitting the school bus.  The impact of the crash forced the bus into the crosswalk striking Mr. Lewis and Ms. Fibelkorn.   Ms. Fibelkorn died at the crash scene and Mr. Lewis succumbed to his injuries on December 29th.  The bus driver and the passenger in Trent’s pick-up truck, Mamie Adams, age 51, were both injured during the crash, but survived the accident.  “A Franklin County Jury found the defendant guilty of all four counts he was charged with.  Trent received the maximum sentence possible for the deaths he caused due to his erratic and reckless driving.  Trent has also lost all driving privileges for the rest of his life” O’Brien stated.
