STRANGER RAPE OF 22 YEAR OLD LINKED TO SUSPECT BY CODIS HIT

Defendant: Joseph Keith Kibby

Franklin County Prosecutor Ron O’Brien said, “This man grabbed his 22 year old victim from behind and put her in a chokehold prior to raping her.”  Prosecutor Ron O’Brien announced that the Franklin County Grand Jury has indicted Joseph Keith Kibby, age 29, in connection to a stranger rape that occurred on September 21, 2016 near the intersection of Scott Street and N. Glenwood Avenue.  Kibby has been indicted for one count of Kidnapping (F-1), one count of Felonious Assault (F-2), and one count of Rape (F-1), for a total of three counts.  The 22 year old victim was walking when she was grabbed from behind by Kibby, who forced vaginal intercourse and then fled the scene.  Columbus Police detectives submitted the victim’s sexual assault exam kit to the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation.  A DNA profile on the rapist was established and entered into CODIS.  In November 2016 there was a CODIS hit to Joseph Keith Kibby, who was currently in the Franklin County jail.  Kibby has a pending multiple count indictment for Murder involving different victims from an offense that occurred on June 28, 2016 (Case No. 16CR5400) as well as a one count indictment for Possession of Drugs from an offense date of February 27, 2015 (Case No. 16CR5424).  Arraignment for Kibby is set for today, January 18, 2017 at 1:30 pm in courtroom 2B at 345 S. High Street in downtown Columbus.
