Two Indictments Filed On Alleged Sex Offender Who Also Failed To Register

Defendant: Eric Renard Cowart

Prosecutor Ron O’Brien announces that the Franklin County Grand Jury has returned two separate indictments on Eric Renard Cowart, age 44. Cowart was indicted for one count (F-1) Failure to Verify Current Address, and one count (F-1) Failure to Provide Notice of Change of Address, for a total of two counts. The indictment alleges that on or about December 4^th through December 28^th, 2010, the defendant, who was previously convicted of Rape in 1985 in the state of Georgia, failed to appear for registration verification as required by law in the state of Ohio. Cowart was also indicted for a total of three counts (F-3) Unlawful Sexual Conduct with a Minor, for allegedly having sex with a female child in mid-October, 2010.

O’Brien stated, “If the defendant is convicted on all charges from both indictments, he faces a maximum sentence in excess of 30 years”. Arraignment for both cases will be this week.
