Defendant: Marina Alexeevna Lonina and Raymond Boyd Gates
Franklin County Prosecutor Ron O’Brien announced today that the Franklin County Grand Jury has returned an indictment against Marina Alexeevna Lonina, age 18, and an acquaintance Raymond Boyd Gates, age 29, in connection to the rape that occurred on February 27, 2016 to Lonina’s friend, who was 17 years old at the time, at a home located on Christina Lane in Columbus. The victim and the two defendants were socializing and at some point in the evening it is alleged that Gates forced sexual intercourse with the victim and Lonina started Periscoping (live-streaming in real time) the sexual assault. Lonina had also photographed the victim in a state of nudity the night before at Lonina’s house located at 4146 Nafzger Drive in Columbus. A friend of Lonina’s in another state watched the Periscope live stream of the rape on the 27th and authorities were contacted. The defendants have been indicted for one count of Kidnapping (F-1), two counts of Rape (F-2), one count of Sexual Battery (F-3), two counts of Pandering Sexually-Oriented Matter Involving a Minor (F-2), and one count of Pandering Sexually-Oriented Matter Involving a Minor (F-4) . Lonina was also indicted for one count of Illegal Use of Minor in Nudity Oriented Material or Performance (F-2) and one count of Illegal Use of Minor in Nudity Oriented Material or Performance (F-5) for photographing events that took place the night before the rape. “If Gates and Lonina are convicted for these charges, they each face a potential sentence in excess of forty years in prison”, O’Brien stated.
