GROVEPORT MAN INDICTED FOR MURDER AND FELONIOUS ASSAULT AFTER SHOOTING HIS WIFE IN THE HEAD IN FIRST HOMICIDE CASE OF 2018

Franklin County Prosecutor Ron O’Brien said, “This man shot his wife in the head on New Year’s Eve and then fled the scene.”  Ron O’Brien announced today that the Franklin County Grand Jury has returned an indictment against Sean M. Newman, age 32, for two counts of Murder with Specification (UF) and two counts of Felonious Assault (F-2), for a total of four counts, in connection to the December 31st, 2017 shooting of his wife, Ashley Marie Newman, age 30, that occurred at their residence located in the 4000 block of Yukon Avenue in Groveport.  At approximately 11:30 pm, Police received a 911 call on the report of a shooting.  “The victim was suffering from a gunshot wound to the head and was transported by medics to Grant Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead shortly after midnight,” O’Brien stated.  Police took the suspect into custody a short time later after they found him near his crashed vehicle on I-270 near Alum Creek. The suspect had crashed his car into another vehicle, which was occupied by two women.   Arraignment for Newman is scheduled for this Friday, January 12th at 1:30 pm in courtroom 2B at 345 S. High Street in downtown Columbus.
